The end of 2009 is coming and it has been a wonderful & busy journey. 2009 has brought with it so many things from happiness and heartache. I welcomed a beautiful little girl into the world on May 24 at 1:51am, I have done tons of family & child sessions this year, and have been blessed with a beautiful healthy family of my own. However, with the happiness came a lot of stress and heartache, from the stress of finding out my youngest daughter has an eye condition and not knowing if a brain tumor was causing it, to my oldest daughter being hospitalized with her kidneys acting up, and my closest friend's son having to get his appendix removed. Then witnessing so many close friends & family losing almost everything, from jobs to their homes to their spouses. Yet amongst all of the heartache we have all survived, we are making it just one day at a time and it has been a roller coaster of a year. I have such an amazing feeling about this coming year. I feel that after we have all gone through so much this year that 2010 is going to bring with it wonderful and bright happy things. As I am reflecting from this year I am looking back at all of my wonderful clients who I appreciate & love so much! I would love to do something to show my appreciation so I thought it would be fun to pick out my favorite pictures from this past year and chose just one lucky client to win a 16x20 of that picture along with a free session* in 2010!

I am really excited to launch my new set of Actions :) The "Make it" actions. I've bought several actions over the years and have realized one thing: NONE of them really suited my needs. Most were over-done and just created a very un-natural look that was fun but wouldn't work for that day to day editing. So I have been studying Photoshop and really trying to master what I wanted to do to a picture to make it look perfect. To take it to that next step. :)

On October 3 I had the pleasure of taking pictures of little Macyn and her beautiful family. Macyn is one of the sweetest little one year olds I've ever had the pleasure of taking pictures of. Her Daddies were also beyond nice! My daughter had been in the hospital the day before their party and when I arrived they were so welcoming and kind. Many of the guests asked how Rory was and when I left they packed me up a box of food to take and gave me balloons for Rory and goodie pails for the kids! I must say I felt odd taking something from where I'm working lol. Seriously though this is such a kind family and Macyn is one lucky little girl :)

HI! Call me Jessica. That was my 'under-cover' name today when I called every chain portrait studio I could think of.

Now why did I call all of these studios you may wonder. Well I wanted to find out a few bits of information from them, and seeing as I couldn't find out everything to my hearts content via the internet I resorted to calling them. Wal-mart was the ONLY place I could not get a hold of.

The information I was looking for was:
Length of session
Amount of pictures taken
Sitting fees
Cost of a Disc WITH copyright release

The information I gave them was that I had 3 children I wanted photographed

ALL of these studios offer UP TO 15 minutes per session. That's right ONLY 15 minutes.

*Olan Mills*
-No sitting fee however, they do charge a $5.95 shipping fee for prints/discs
-They give up to 15 images/pictures/poses (whatever you want to call it)
-Disc of images is $150

*Sears*
- up to 9 poses
- $119.00 for a CD

*JC Penney*
- 9.99 per person sitting fee
- up to 30 pictures
- $100.00 CD

*Kiddie Kandids (babies-r-us)*
-No Sitting
- up to 9 poses
- $199 for a CD

*Picture People*
- No Sitting
-up to 40 pictures total
- $250 for a CD, however, they will only give you 12 full size images on the disc. After 12 images, they start resizing the images and if you try to print from them they will be grainier. (NICE)

So what is my Beef with 'chain portrait studios'?

1- They hire people regardless of knowledge of cameras/taking pictures & they instruct their employees to shoot in 'program/auto' which is the same thing as using a point and shoot aka (anyone can take the pics)

2- They only give you 15 minutes! (anyone with a shy child knows it can take a lot longer than that for the kid to warm up to a stranger)

3- They don't care about the end result. You get between 6-40 clicks of the camera and regardless of the pics that's what you get. They don't meticulously go through the pics and find the best ones and edit them to make your pictures a work of art & perhaps remove that unwanted scratch or pimple ;)

4- Overall poor quality.

So what do I recommend for people who want REAL professional pictures? Simple, Hire a professional. I understand that in these times of economic crisis that it isn't easy to hire a 'professional' photographer, as usually they charge quite a bit more than any of these 'chain' stores. Well, I hate to see anyone have to get crappy pics, so that is why I am offering my Economic Stimulus Sessions once again.

My sweet little baby turned 4 months old on the 24th! I can't believe it's been 4 months with this sweet little girl! She has learned so much in the past few months. She smiles like crazy, she can roll over from her tummy to her back, she can grab at things and put them in her mouth, and she can sit up for a few seconds at a time completely unassisted. She is such an amazing & sweet girl. She fits into our family so well. I love her to pieces!

I had an awesome session this past weekend with a GORGEOUS family! I may be slightly partial as I am in LOVE with the Asian culture. Growing up I always told my mom that I wanted to adopt a little Asian girl! Well that didn't end up happening so the next best thing is to take pictures of these adorable little cuties! I was informed that it is tradition in the Japanese culture that when your little girl turns three years old you take pictures of her in a kimono! Let me tell you this completely made my heart melt! SOOOOO stinkin cute!

I had a great session with Brandis' on Saturday morning. She has two absolutely adorable little ones with completely opposite personalities! It was so much fun to take pictures of the kiddos and talk to Brandis! We have a ton in common, one major one is the fact that we both cloth diaper! YAY GREEN!!!!!

Her daughter was SO shy! She eventually warmed up and became a chatter box which I COMPLETELY adore because I was exactly the same way as a child!

I am a HUGE believer in Paying it Forward. All of us have been in a situation where things have been tough whether it be loss of a job, illness or just going through a rough patch. It is so wonderful when someone does something to help cheer us up, and pictures are a great pick-me-up!

I had a great time this morning taking pics of Mandi and her adorable family! Her boys are beyond sweet! What a cool family! I had a shoot on Saturday with 13 people! It was a huge family shoot that included mom, dad their 5 kids, as well as grandma, grandpa, a cousin her significant other and their two cute kids! WOW!!! Can you say a LOT of people :) They were very sweet though and I'd shoot for them anytime :)

Well my dear friend Jenni had her baby on Friday. I went and visited her in the hospital yesterday and just HAD to take a few snaps of her! She is GORGEOUS!!!!! I love all my brides, I love seeing the wedding progress from the planning stages, to the wedding day and then seeing their love progress for years to come! However, I absolutely love when every once in a while you come across a bride that you immediately hit it off with! Shannon is one of them! She is such an amazing person, I can talk to her for HOURS and I feel like I didn't just gain a client I've gained a fun new friend! She called me up this week and said she wanted to get together today, of course I said yes! When i showed up she surprised me with this absolutely GORGEOUS diaper cake!!! I seriously almost started crying! She is such a sweet heart! She knows that my favorite color combos are brown/pink and brown/blue and seeing as we don't know the sex of the baby she made a cake to go either way! I had to come on and share a picture! Thanks so much Shannon! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!

Oh and if you need a 'food' cake she makes AWESOME designer cakes!

Whether it be removing a pimple, to removing unwanted back-fat, as well as adjusting: the color, contrast, skin tones and so much more. WOW I can't believe I am already 32 weeks!!! I had both my other children at 38 weeks, which means I may very well be holding my little baby in as little as 6 weeks!! My sister-in-law, Codi, is currently attending school at Texas A&M. She had spring break this past week and came home with her boyfriend, Juan, to California to visit. My kids couldn't have been happier. Codi has to be my daughter's favorite person! Rory will ask to call "my Codi", and when people knock at the door she automatically assumes that it is Codi, regardless of the fact that Codi, hasn't lived in California for almost 2 years lol. Logan however, decided that Juan needed to be his best friend. Every time Juan was at our house Logan INSISTED that Juan hold him, read to him, play with him. I got the impression Codi was a bit jealous of all the love Juan was getting, she joked with him that she would NOT be bringing him home to visit again lol. Anyways, I didn't take very many pictures but here are a couple that I DID take :)

Jenni's Baby Shower!

I had the pleasure of going to Jenni's baby shower. I have known Jenni since high school. She actually dated one of my best friends! We instantly hit it off and have been friends ever since. She is a wonderful person and I am so happy for her and her husband Jay! They are expecting their very first little bundle of joy, a baby girl to be named Makaylin! She isn't due until late April but we are all keeping our fingers crossed for April 7th! Which happens to be a very special date for her ;)

Anyways, her baby shower was Saturday and I almost wasn't able to make it (due to an injury I received on Friday - yes I am a clutz!) Luckily however, I did make it and managed to snap a few (and I mean FEW) pics, I wish I could have taken more!

Her sister-in-law made this AWESOME diaper cake! I am totally in love with it! I have never seen one in person and I don't think pictures can do it justice! It was soooo cute!

Today was definitely an interesting day! I woke up with the worst case of morning sickness. Well actually I went to bed with it and didn't get much sleep lol! I have been so dizzy and lightheaded all day because of it! I ended up calling off of work because I was so ill! However, I had a photo shoot today with Rebecca and her little ones! My dear husband was mad at me for not rescheduling, but I have yet to miss a shoot and I don't plan on starting now! So I packed up my gear and headed over to Rebecca's house. Rebecca is SUCH a nice person, she actually reminds me a bit of my Bestest friend Jenn (and it isn't just because they both have a boy named the same thing)! Her husband is in the army and is currently deployed, so we wanted to get some shots to send over to him! I really wanted to get up her sneak peak today, and between trips to the bathroom it pretty much took me the ENTIRE day to edit these few pics! Anyways, I hope you like them Rebecca! Meet Audrey

Ok so I am double posting :p I posted this same blog on my other blog but I wanted to post it here as well :)

Sunday Will and I were out and about and we found this lil girl! We were told that she is a German Shepherd/Collie mix. We had to bring her home, I know you are thinking we are crazy but I couldn't see something happening to her :( We've started crate training her and it is going well :) We plan on doing EVERYTHING by the book this time, we are following a STRICT schedule and plan on putting her in puppy training classes in a couple weeks :)

She has already fallen in love with the kids and vice versa! If she sees them she cries until she can be with them. it is quite sweet! Aurora can say Audrey perfectly! She also gets along great with my Lily Bear, which I am happy because Lily needed a friend :)

My husband LOVES USC. For a while one of our rooms was decked out in USC stuff. I find it rather amusing, mainly because I grew up in a house that did not watch ANY sports on tv. . . well anything other than fights (my dad is a master in Martial Arts). So now I am married to a jock lol. He LOVES sports ESPECIALLY college football. He has several USC beanies and Rory grabbed one today and put it on. I HAD to take a picture :)

My internet has been messing up! Basically for the past week and a half it has been working sporadically and usually only in 10 minute intervals! GEESH!!! Well we canceled our DSL and switched over to cable! As always seems to happen instead of the usual "30" minutes it was supposed to take it took nearly 4 hours to have installed! again *GEESH* Well it is finally up and my internet is running faster than ever! not only is it super fast it also saves us a whopping $10 a month again WOOHOO!!!! soooo I'm back!
